Teaching Philosophy
I believe in teaching the whole child. I am a firm believer that in order for students to consistently learn from a teacher, trust needs to be a main component. I will have a blend of direct instruction and guided discovery in my classroom. These will be implemented by using learning theories such as constructivism, 21st century skills, and choice theory. For example, in each lesson constructivism will be demonstrated by building off topics from previous weeks. Students will be allowed different choices throughout the semester to complete different tasks; and demonstrate 21st century skills through class discussion, project collaboration, use of technology, etc. This will allow me to create individualized engagement instead of just teaching at the front of the room. I will better connect with students and monitor their progress on different topics by doing so. Also, by implementing choice theory into my classroom, I can expect students to take more control of their learning which will lead to them being more invested.
Classroom Management Philosophy
I will incorporate Love and Logic in my classroom to create an environment where students feel safe and welcomed. I will provide an intentionally inviting environment by greeting my students at the door and taking time to ask how they are doing. Some key components in my philosophy are to be consistent and organized so I can spend more time during class focused on giving students the attention they need. By doing so, students will be well aware of the expectations. This will also help me to develop trust with the students and allow them to see that I am truly invested in their learning.
